Hands-free kit
In America it’s a vest, on the ski slopes it’s a gilet, and on a building site it’s a bodywarmer. There’s a lot to be said for arms-free insulation, even if no-one can agree what it’s called. It keeps your core warm while giving you much more freedom of movement than a jacket – especially during more active pursuits or outdoor work. The Ridgeway fleece vest from Filson is a cut above the rest. It’s got a full-length zip and plenty of pockets, with nice little details like an internal storm flap and a chin guard with a soft microfleece lining. The Polartec fleece material is lightweight and breathable but also really warm, and it’ll dry out pretty quickly if you get it wet. The fit isn’t too baggy, making the Ridgeway great for layering either over or under other garments. We like to zip one up over a cosy wool jumper for evening dog walks

Over the years, Filson’s philosophy has never changed: Make sure it’s the absolute best. Clinton Filson spent a lot of time talking to his customers and refining his designs to their specifications. So it’s not surprising that the items that worked then still work today, over 120 years later. Comfort, protection and durability never go out of style.
